The file extension CPI marks so-called AVCHD video clip information files. These "video snippets" of information files are generated by various digital video camcorders and contain metadata describing the AVCHD video stream. These include the frame rate, shooting date and aspect ratio. The actual video data is stored in AVCHD mts file.

More info

CPI files are usually located in 'AVCHD / BDMV / CLIPINF' on the storage device of the recording device and are normally only needed when playing a recording directly from the device itself or when transferring to an optical disc. Video editing programs that support AVCHD do not need CPI files.

AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) is a standard for file-based recording and playback of high-definition video. Developed by Sony and Panasonic, it is mainly used in camcorders for the consumer market.
