What is DIB file?

The file extension DIB stands for device independent bitmap, ie a device-independent image format and represents a rarely used alternative extension to bmp (Windows BitMaP). However, DIB and bmp files differ in that bmp images can contain additional information in the so-called BMP header.

More info

The DIB format offers only a weak compression with RLE, which is why the files are usually quite large. If a graphic program or indicator does not support the file extension DIB, changing it to bmp can usually help. Therefore, DIB files can in principle be opened with any program that supports bmp.
