  • Popularity
Have you encountered a problem with a PUB file? Don’t you know which program opens a file with this extension? You will find all the information you need about working with a PUB file here. In the further part of this page we have added a list of programs that should open your PUB file. It is enough you choose a proper application for your operating system, download and install it.

The extension PUB is used by default by the desktop publishing software Microsoft Publisher. The Microsoft Publisher can be used to create print publications (eg newspapers), websites, and product presentations (eg flyers, brochures). The PUB format is a proprietary format that can only be read by very few applications.

PUB files can contain all types of text and fonts as well as graphic elements, including images and vector graphics. A PUB file is a print-ready file with all elements and colors ready for printing.

Unfortunately, PUB files can be opened almost exclusively with the Microsoft Publisher. Only Adobe InDesign can import PUB files using the PUB2ID plugin. If you do not want to spend so much money, you can also install the test version of the Microsoft Publisher and at least get the opportunity to view PUB files after the trial period has expired.

Alternatively, you can try to convert PUB files to PDF using various Internet converter services. For example, www.Pdfonline.Com/convert-pdf supports the conversion of PUB files. However, the success rate depends on the version of the MS Publisher that created the file.

Programs which can open a PUB file

How to open a PUB file? Advice and guidance

Absolutely most often appearing reason that prevents you from opening the PUB file is the lack of a proper application to support it in your operating system. It is notably the first thing you need to address. When one of the programs to support a PUB file from the list is already installed, you can try to rerun the file. The system should display a message asking you to choose a primary application to support PUB files. At this point we are looking for disk space where the application was installed in and we can link it with a PUB file. Since then, our operating system will use the selected program to support all PUB files.

Other issues

Despite the described problem with PUB there may be many more problems. If the existing operations were not effective, get involved with the following matters:

- verify that the PUB file is not damaged and that it has been downloaded or copied in whole
- verify that the file has a file extension that has not been intentionally changed (for example, if it do not contain other information than its extension suggests)
- make sure again whether the PUB file type is linked in the operating system with a proper program
- make sure that the file is not infected with a virus and you have up to date software and drivers.
